About Art Rocks | Summary

What is the Art Rocks music competition?

Art Rocks is the largest music competition in the Netherlands that fuses music and the visual arts. Art Rocks challenges musicians to write a song inspired by one of more than 90 artworks in the collections of the following 15 leading Dutch museums spread over the country: Van Gogh Museum (Amsterdam), Drents Museum (Assen), Kröller-Müller Museum (Otterlo), Fries Museum (Leeuwarden), Wereldmuseum (Rotterdam), Museum De Lakenhal (Leiden), Coda (Apeldoorn), Bonnefantenmuseum (Maastricht), Museum Prinsenhof (Delft), KAF (Almere), Zeeuws Museum (Middelburg), Amsterdam Museum (Amsterdam), Panorama Mesdag (Den Haag), Noordbrabants Museum (Den Bosch) and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam).

The next competition starts in August 2020 and will finish in March 2021 with a grande finale in Paradiso (Amsterdam). This is the 5th year of this project and we cooperate with several national musicpartners and educational partners. Part of the program is a masterclassday with young musicans and an event called ‘Museumronde’ where musicans perform next to the art collection.
